Another Day…

by Thomas on Mar.29, 2009, under General Ramblings

….another dollar.

Yes, March is just about behind us.   That leaves just 4 months of shopping season for my birthday.  You better stop reading this and get busy.

It also means tax season.  And as much as I love tax season, it means I have to actually do our taxes.  Pretty much got them all done in TurboTax, and just need to say “Lock and Load!” while I click the submit button. (No, no I don’t do that.)  But before I can, I still have to calculate our profit and/or loss on a few stocks I sold last year.  (I don’t want to estimate those numbers!  You can’t back me into a corner, IRS!)

The wife was just mentioning how we haven’t made it to one Spring Training baseball game this year, and for that, yeah, I’m sorry.  It seems all the weekends here at icedlatte.com are booked up.  And with her being a teacher, it’s pretty hard to play hookey.

The homemade latte…

…we all have to cut back in this difficult economy.

Not something you see everyday.. {Missile Commercial}

by Thomas on Mar.16, 2009, under General Ramblings

This was shown at the recent Aero India 2009 show.  It’s by an Israeli missle manufacturer.  It’s the weirdest commercial you’ll see in quite a while.

(And it’s hard to get lyrics like “I promise to defend you….Fulfill your expectations!” out of your head. That’s love, I tell you.)

Games, Games, Games

by Thomas on Mar.11, 2009, under General Ramblings

I like games.

From our first Atari 2600, to the Vectrex, to the Atari 7800, to the Nintendo Entertainment System, and on and on, I’ve kinda liked games.

So it comes as no surprise that I really enjoy nostalgic game sites.  And two of them stand out.

The first: Virtual Apple 2

I never grew up with an Apple ][ computer.  Messed around with them a little in grade school, and our high school had a whole lab of them.  But they still have something retro about them.

This site has tons of Apple ][ and Apple //gs programs.  Very cool.  One of the coolest?  Oregon Trail.

What makes this site so cool is that you can play the programs inside your browser.  You just have to install a small plugin.

Next up? 2600online.com (This site is heavily hit right now, so it might not work all the time.)

E.T. . In your browser.  Using Java.  What more can I say?  This site has quite a few of the good Atari 2600 games (Space Invaders.  Yars Revenge.  Missile Command.  Even the game I remember saving up $25 for as a kid:  Superman.  I kid you not.)  It also has a few of the awful 2600 games:  E.T.  The original Pac Man.

You can relive your youth.  It will also hit you that the games we really enjoyed as kids really weren’t that good.

Enjoy!

Allergies, Allergies…

by Thomas on Mar.03, 2009, under General Ramblings

..is just a fact of life for me, right now.

Usually during the year, a Zyrtec and I’m good to go.  But with the last week, with Phoenix warming up, and everything blooming, it’s been pretty bad.

According to azcentral.com, this is one of the worst years… and it’s just going to get worse.

So I just load up on Benadryl, which works pretty well, but it makes me quite drowsy.

But, with that warmer weather comes spring training baseball.  Hopefully we’ll get to a game this weekend.  Don’t think we’ll take our usual trip to Tucson anymore, with less and less teams down there.

Other than that, it’s business as usual.
