Is Summer over yet?

…because it mostly is here in this household.
The wife is back to work, which means pretty much no long trips, since she can’t take time off easily. That’s okay, as the fam needs to boost the savings anyway. We are in a recession, after all.
Of course, I need almost a $1,000 (that number looks larger with a comma in it, doesn’t it? $1000 vs $1,000. It just looks bigger.) Due to my stupid poo-poo head, I missed signing up for the health savings account at work by 1 day. (I forgot it’s the only thing that doesn’t auto-renew every year. Whoops.) I was counting on that to help pay for dentist stuff this year, and, of course, the dentist says I can’t wait until next year for this work. I need to do it now. So we’ve been cutting back as much as we can, and trying to save money.
But that doesn’t mean I can’t plan trips.
In June 2010, it will be our 10th wedding anniversary! (I’m glad I got married in 2000 so I can always tell what anniversary it is!)
Are we going to Walt Disney World? Disneyland? Nope.
It looks like we’re probably going to be going to Maui.
I’m sure I’ll be blogging about that more in the next year, so you’ll just have to wait. I just wanted to give everyone enough warning so they can avoid my pasty, pasty body in the water in June, 2010.
‘Night.
Vacations, all over..

…and it’s a side day in the icedlatte.com household.
We got back from Las Vegas, all safe and snug, thanks to Southwest airlines.
The wife had a conference in Tucson until Thursday afternoon, while I flew out from Phoenix on Thursday morning. After renting a car, (a red 2009 Nissan Z Roadster. It hot for a convertible, but man, was it a nice ride.) and checking into the always beautiful Riviera, it was time to stand in line for my DEFCON badge. Luckily, I was able to get a badge. But the line was long, once again. (This year’s badge has a multi-color LED that responds to sound. Pretty nifty.)
The wife then flew in later that evening from Tucson, so the family was once again complete, and we could enjoy all that Vegas had to offer. (That is, cheap food, the pinball museum, slots machines, and DEFCON.)
Cheap food? Always good stuff. This time we decided to go to the Rio buffet, since the wife has never bee there, and yelp.com ranks it high on the buffet level. And it was tasty.
Until I found a contact lens (or what looked like a dried up contact lens) in my pasta salad.
After getting one of our buffet’s refunded, we decided to just go somewhere else for dessert. (Good call.)
The conference itself was good, and I picked up a lot of knowledge and cool info that will take awhile to digest. The conference itself, though, it just getting way too crowded for the Riviera. I understand they had over 10,000 attendees this year, and it showed.
But then again, I’ll probably be back next year anyway.
