Rock on..

Posted by Thomas on 30 Jan 2004 | Tagged as: General Ramblings

The end of the week.. And this week, it hasn’t come soon enough. Work has been, well, ‘busy’, I guess. It really sucks that my boss is leaving, but at least they didn’t reorg us as ‘bad’ as I thought it might be, so I can’t complain.

I’ve decided to install Fedora Redhat, and it doesn’t seem like it’s the greatest. I guess I’m not a really big fan of RedHat, anyway, but it was quite a pain to get it installed in VMWare.. A few issues. It’s nice to have VMWare to screw around with it.

Taxes. Taxes are fun. Luckily, it looks like we did pretty good this year. It’s just calculating the value of stock if you bought ESPP.. It’s really a pain. But then again, I’m not a tax guy.

“Intellivision Lives!” for XBox on Tuesday.. Some old-school fun.

CHiP’s rocks…

Posted by Thomas on 27 Jan 2004 | Tagged as: General Ramblings

I dunno what it is about the TV-show CHiP’s, but I like watching it. It’s hard to say why.. Probably the cheesy 70’s & 80’s storylines, and the stupid music, too. Or just because there is nothing interesting on in the mornings on television. Oh well.

So major changes at the office. It looks like my manager is leaving the company, to go somewhere else, and that sucks. He’s been a great boss. But with that, we’re probably going to have another reorg, and that sucks too. Hopefully it will go smoothy and such, but since they never usually do.

Water is funner…

Posted by Thomas on 21 Jan 2004 | Tagged as: General Ramblings

So we had a little issue with some water in the house the other day. What exactly? Well, we noticed a little ‘bubble’ on the ceiling of the first floor. After piercing it with a nail, it started a big stream of water. Not good..

After having a plumber come out, it turns out that the water spout in the master bathroom upstairs had a worn seal, causing it to leak into the wall. Nice. Luckily, except for some drywall, no major damage. I guess it could have been worse, but that’s life. Luckily, we have a great landlord, (Hey Jen!), and it was no big deal.

Other than that, work.

I’ve been stressing for quite awhile about our summer trip for 2004… We’ve booked a 7 day land & cruise at Walt Disney World, and was kind of stressing about where to come up with the funds to pay. (We booked the Polynesian, with a patio cabin on the cruise.) Not cheap.

Well, it looks like I’ve found the money to cover it, and it doesn’t include selling plasma every week! YAA HOO! We’re planning on going with the in-laws (the parents & the brother & sister), so much fun will be had by all. It gets a little boring always going to WDW by yourself. Now we can show them the sights. But with a 4 day land package, instead of the seven, it’ll be hard to see everything.

While you’re at it, take a look at my journal from our 2002 WDW trip here: 2002 WDW Travelogue.

Cars are fun…

Posted by Thomas on 15 Jan 2004 | Tagged as: General Ramblings

Well, I’m stupid when it comes to cars. Real stupid. Well, I do know where the window washer blue-stuff goes. But other than that.

So I come out from the store after running some errands and discover a flat tire. Fun stuff. Putting on my best “I-can-do-this!” face, I get out the jack and tools, and proceed to jack up the car and loosen the lug-nuts. So problem #1, one lug-nut is quite tight, so tight, in fact, that it won’t budge. Fun.

Okay, I decide, I’ll get out the spare tire and worry about that for a minute. On a 91 Toyota pickup, you have to use a wench to lower it from the back. After spending a few minutes trying to figure out how the three pieces turn into a wench, I think I got it. It doesn’t turn. Crap. Ah ha! One of the parts of the wench has a screw sticking out of the side. I think this makes it turn, and lowers the tire. Whoops. The screw falls out. Into the spare tire. So now I’m minus a screw, and still have one lug-nut left. This isn’t going well.

Decide to cut my loss, and track down an air pump. A mile walk to Checker, and I have the pump. A mile walk back, and I have a nice sunburn. (It’s 80 degrees today!)

Got the tire filled enough to drive home, and that’s where it now sits. Looks like a cut in the sidewall of the tire, so we’ll have to buy a new one. Oh well. At least I worked on my tan, eh?

Just for fun: Inside iTunes, Type Arnold Schwarzenegger into the iTunes Music Store search. Listen. Be scared. Very scared.

Is the week over yet?

Posted by Thomas on 08 Jan 2004 | Tagged as: General Ramblings

Well, just about, I guess. And it’s been a doozie.

Telecommuting is fun, but sometimes, you just have to go into the office. Especially when you either have to build a new firewall, or just kick one. But then again, it’s only been a few hours at the office, so it’s not like it’s been that rough. But it still takes awhile to get into the groove.

I finally found the Gameboy today! Happy Day! I was having WarioWare withdrawls, and now I can safely say that the crack is back. A co-worker just picked the game up, so we’re looking forward to some sweet, sweet multiplayer. (Even though it’s pretty pathetic multiplayer.)

Art from coffee.. cool..

Posted by Thomas on 06 Jan 2004 | Tagged as: General Ramblings

So these people make art out of actual coffee. They basically paint with coffee. Quite cool, actually. Might have to check out how much a painting goes for.

It’s actually been cold here at night in Phoenix, almost freezing. Compared to the 70’s we’ve been used to, that’s rough. We even had to resort to turning on the heater, which is something that I have a hard time doing in Phoenix, but was necessary to keep the peace with the wife. Whatya going to do?

You’re getting very, very sleepy…

Posted by Thomas on 05 Jan 2004 | Tagged as: General Ramblings

The first day back to work is always the worst. Staying up till all hours of the night for two weeks, then attemping to actually get up and work at 5am is really friggin hard. You can get by with lots of coffee, though.

TV goodness in the bedroom..

Posted by Thomas on 04 Jan 2004 | Tagged as: General Ramblings

Well, we cash in quite a few gift certificates that we had lying around from Christmas, and picked up a Toshiba 20 inch TV and a stand for the bedroom. So now we can be really lazy, and not even leave the bed to watch television. Talk about lazy.

Lots and lots of Mario Kart going around. I’m addicted, I think. But then again, it’s back to work on Monday, and that’ll really blow.
