Wonderful world of Windows…

This reminds me of why I really can’t stand Windows..

Had a problem with my computer recognizing my mouse & keyboard. (I have to use a funky keyboard/mouse switcher, to use both my laptop and person PC at the same time.) Fine; I power the box off, and back on again. Comes back and Windows XP complains it can’t find the system directory. grrrrr.

After much searching the Internet on my other machine, and talking to a very talented Windows co-worker, I’m SOL, pretty much.

So I buy a new hard drive, so I thought I could access & backup my documents, which proved to be fruitless. Also had to buy a floppy drive, so I could get the stupid serial ATA drivers to load, which have to load from a floppy disk. (Thanks, Bill!)

So about $100 later, I have my machine back up, but I did lose some documents. That’s life, I guess…. And I was just thinking to myself earlier this week I really need to back everything up!

Nope, still not dead..yet..

Yeesh.. It’s been too long. Like when you’ve been away from coffee too long, and you get that first refreshing taste back. Something like that, but just not as creepy/weird.

We’ve been to Disneyland, of course, but I still haven’t uploaded the pictures to the site. Yeah, I gotta work on that, and I shall. It was enjoyable, and the park was just dead. Pretty much everything was a walk on, including Big Thunder Mountain, which was really friggin cool.

I also passed by exams, so I’m now a CCNA.. (That’s Cisco Certified Network Associate, for those of you playing a long at home.) It was a little harder than I thought. Two exams, with the first being slightly easy, since I had some exposure to stuff they asked about, but the second was not fun. I really thought I actually failed it, but it must have been my day. :) What does that mean for my job? Well, some places would give you a pay raise, but yeah, probably not mine. It does mean I probably could get more money elsewhere, though. So who knows?

If you know anything about wireless networks, you’d know that they’re pretty insecure. Especially the ones you see at hotels. (ie: totally unencrypted, with many people using it.) Tell that to the NSA guy sitting behind me in class, checking his personal email with Outlook Express. What a chump.

More later..

What?

The wife is out of town this weekend. Nope, no keggers here at the house. Mostly just cleaning up the house, and enjoying some non-stop video game playing. That’s always good.

Next weekend we’re going to, believe it or not, Disneyland. Yeah. Surprising, and all that. Look for some picture updates and such later.
