Things are afoot in Queen Creek…

As some of you might or might not know, we haven’t done much with the backyard yet.  It’s pretty much been a dirt pit, with the occasional weed growing. (Well, a few weeds.  But that’s neither here nor there.)

Last year we just lost track of time in planning it, and by the time we were on the ball, it was Summer.  You don’t do projects like this in Summer.  Well, you can, but you’d be dumb.

This year we decided we really needed to start on it, as the wife really wanted to have grass and a garden.  And when you’re married, if your wife isn’t happy, you aren’t happy.  So started we have.

Here’s what it looked like before we started:

2641

(This was actually right before we moved in, where you can see the crab grass as it was alive.)

That required that we first get the yard ready for sprinklers.  Which also required more work.  Since it was mostly crab grass, which is a pain, we had to whack it down after killing most of it.  Then the spreading of the manure, which, smells great.  Then, the tilling of the ground, to get the good dirt up and make it easier to dig the trenches for the sprinkler.

Fun times.  We’ve pretty much got the ground ready to go, and I have some plans for the sprinker system in my head.  Just need to put it down on paper, and away we go.

During this fun time, I’ve setup a gallery that you can see our progress.   If you click each individual picture, I’ve added comments about what it is, exactly, we’re doing.

It’s definitely been a learning experience.
